A Family Built on Purpose

What began as one family's response to inadequate elder care has grown into a multi-generational calling — seven homes, dozens of caregivers, and hundreds of families served across nearly five decades. And when the time came for our own family members to need care, there was never any question about where they would live.

1978

The First Generation

Heinz & Christa Jessel

Christa, a nurse frustrated by the conditions she witnessed in convalescent hospitals, opened the family's first residential care home in Laguna Hills — pioneering what was then a very new concept in senior care.

1980

The Second Generation

Don & Brigitte Fisk

Christa's daughter Brigitte, also a nurse, and her husband Don opened Villa Regina in Mission Viejo — living in the home with their two young sons while personally delivering hands-on care to every resident.

2004

The Third Generation

Mark & Erin Fisk

Mark and Erin opened Arbor View in Mission Viejo, bringing a renewed commitment to individualized care, clinical expertise, and a professional approach that has grown to seven homes across South Orange County.

In 1978, Christa Jessel was a nurse working in a convalescent hospital in Laguna Hills. Each day she arrived for her shift, she grew increasingly troubled by what she saw — poor care that was the inevitable product of mismanagement, inadequate staffing, and a system that had lost sight of the people it was meant to serve.

When Christa learned of the emerging concept of residential board and care homes, she recognized the potential for something profoundly better. She and her husband Heinz talked through the risks, the challenges, and the possibilities at length. Their shared conviction won out, and together they opened the family's first residential care home in Laguna Hills.

It was an ambitious undertaking — but Christa's passion for nursing and Heinz's determination and perseverance carried them through. What they built became the foundation on which everything that followed was built.

In the years that followed, as Don and Brigitte took over operations of the home, it was Heinz and Christa themselves who became residents there — cared for in their final years by the family they had raised and the caregiving team they had helped to build. It is perhaps the most honest testament to the quality of care they created.

Just two years after her parents opened their first home, Brigitte — herself a nurse — decided to follow in their footsteps. Together with her husband Don, she opened Villa Regina in Mission Viejo in January of 1980.

In the early years, Don and Brigitte gave everything to their residents. Financially stretched, they lived in the care home alongside their two young boys, Mark and Ryan. They provided the hands-on care themselves, managing every aspect of the home and setting a standard of personal commitment that would define the family's approach to care for decades to come.

As the business grew, so did their sons — watching their parents pour themselves into the lives of the people in their care. It was an upbringing that shaped everything Mark and Erin would go on to build.

Mark grew up in the homes his parents built — watching Don and Brigitte care for their residents with patience, skill, and genuine devotion. After earning a degree in Business Management, he married Erin, who had graduated with a Master of Social Work degree, and the two spent years building expertise in their respective fields before making the decision that had always felt inevitable.

In 2004, Mark and Erin opened Arbor View in Mission Viejo. They brought a fresh perspective to a deeply familiar calling — combining Erin's clinical expertise as a Nurse Care Manager with Mark's operational and systems background to build a model of care that was more proactive, more communicative, and more individualized than anything that had come before in the family's history.

Over the two decades since, Arbor View has grown to seven homes across Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel. Mark and Erin remain directly involved at every location — conducting regular rounds, remaining reachable to families, and holding every home to the same standard of care and cleanliness they set on day one.

When Erin's grandmother Eleanor needed care, the choice of where she would live was never in question. She became a resident of Arbor View 1 — living under the same roof, receiving the same care, as every other resident in the home. To Mark and Erin, there is no stronger statement of confidence in what they have built.

At its core, it means this: we show up. We know our residents. We talk to their doctors. We call their families. We notice when something has changed. We act before a small concern becomes a serious one. We have been doing this long enough to know that the quality of care is determined not by the size of the facility, but by the quality of attention paid to each person within it.

Communication

Open, proactive communication between caregivers, nurses, physicians, and resident families is the foundation of safe, effective care. We don't wait to be asked — we reach out.

Consistency

Long-tenured caregiving staff who know each resident deeply. The same faces, the same routines, the same standards — every day, across every home.

Individual Focus

Every resident is different. Every care plan is built around the specific person — their needs, their preferences, their history — and updated as those needs evolve over time.

Heinz and Christa, who founded the family's first home in 1978, were themselves residents of that home in their final years — cared for by the family and team they had built. Erin's grandmother Eleanor was a resident of Arbor View 1. When the time came for our own loved ones to need care, there was never a question about where they would live.
